The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. Since 1960, 920 women in 120 countries have received awards totaling $3,349,100.00 in order, among others, to unite women educators of the world in a genuine spiritual fellowship and to advance the professional interest and position of women in education.
On September 22-23, I had a privilege and pleasure to be a guest speaker at the Delta Kappa Gamma Florida (Mu) State Organization Board Meeting held in Lake Mary Florida. I am the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and World Committee Fellow for 2016-2017. I was invited to talk about my international exchange experience in the US. The main focus of my presentation was an absolute imperative of education for girls and importance of international exchange.
Two quotes related to my speech I would like to share here:
- Importance of International Exchange
“Educational exchange can turn nations into people, contributing as no other form of communication can to the humanizing of international relations.”
– Senator J. W. Fulbright - Importance of Education for Girls
As Malala stated in preface of the book “What works in Girls’ Education” (Herz & Sperling, 2004): “Every girl, no matter where she lives, no matter what her circumstances, has a right to learn, every leader, no matter who he or she is or the resources available to him or her, has a duty to fulfill and protect this right” because “The world cannot achieve a sustainable, peaceful, and prosperous future without investing in girls’ education”. The book provides hard evidence on why the returns from investing in girls are so high that no nation or family can afford not to educate their girls.
I am so thankful to the financial help, mentorship, ongoing support and friendship of Delta Gamma Society and the World Fellowship Committee. I am grateful to be a part of this amazing group of women, inspiring figures from the United States and all the other fellows from all around the world!
